Missouri River Floods Still Disrupting Transport

Missouri River floodwaters that have covered miles of roads around the northwest part of the state for nearly three months are continuing to cause roadway headaches for towns suddenly dealing with increased traffic, the Associated Press reported.

Sixty-five miles of road remain submerged, including some of the few routes with bridges across the Missouri, and six miles of Interstate 29 across the Missouri-Iowa border are still underwater, with another 14 miles submerged just north of Council Bluffs, Iowa, AP said.

In some areas of the state, the water has carved out holes 40 feet deep under highway pavement, and it remains unclear when the repair work will get under way, AP reported.
