Michigan State Police to Step Up Enforcement in Truck Zones

Under a grant from the Michigan Truck Safety Commission, Michigan State Police will be working a special truck enforcement team until Sept. 30 to curb crashes.

During these operations, officers will conduct traffic stops on commercial motor vehicles in areas known for high truck crash rates, the state police said in a press release. They will be looking for speeding, unlawful lane changes, tailgating and improper turning.

Additionally, officers will be checking driver credentials and equipment to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

The state police are urging motorists not to linger in truckers' blind spots.

They are also asking car drivers not to pass a truck within a mile of where they wish to exit to avoid crossing too close to a tractor-trailer's lane.
