Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index Dips in August

The University of Michigan said its index of consumer sentiment fell to 82 in August, but was higher than the group initially reported.

The index, which measures how consumers feel about the economy, was initially reported to be 78.7 earlier in Au-gust. However, even with the better-than-expected figure, the index still fell from July’s final reading of 84.7.

The decline index was the second in a row and the sixth in the past eight months.
