Many Truckers Return to Work at Miami Port
any truck drivers returned to work at the Port of Miami-Dade on Monday after a judge ordered the drivers to end their two-week-old strike against the port, the Miami Herald reported.
After two weeks of work stoppage by about 700 independent truckers, U.S. District Judge Patricia Seitz on Friday issued a temporary restraining order against the truckers. Miami-Dade County and the private company Universal Maritime Service filed an injunction Friday to halt the stoppage.
On Monday, truck and trailer traffic resumed at the port and there were not any drivers standing in front of the entrance as they had for the past two weeks, the Herald said.
A hearing for a preliminary injunction is scheduled for Thursday. Truckers said they would fight against the injunction because their demands for higher salaries, an end to costly delays and for relief in liability insurance costs have not been met.
