AUSTIN, Texas — Mack Trucks on Oct. 16 introduced a new fleet management portal to provide customers with actionable information about their trucks.

Mack Connect enables customers to digitally access information about their trucks, the company said during a news conference at American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition. Mack said the service brings together several connectivity-related services under one platform, with the aim of improving customer visibility into the health and performance of their vehicles while simplifying access to that data.

“We have a very solid foundation with our industry-leading integrated uptime package,” said Patrick Brown, senior strategy and sustainability manager at Mack. “Now we’re taking it one step further by providing our customers with more visibility into their overall operations.”

Brown added, “Mack Connect will be our first comprehensive fleet management portal that will provide our customers with all the visibility they need in one place for their operations. But it’ll help with a couple of things. It’ll provide access to more critical information that customers typically aren’t used to seeing or interacting with on a day-to-day basis.”

Mack Connect was developed based on customer feedback to help fleets improve their operational efficiencies and profitability. The platform gathers information for customers on their trucks, services and their specific application. The customers can then use that data to improve fuel efficiency, safety and productivity. The various functions and services available through the platform are organized into what is known as its toolbox.

“Mack Connects provides us an even stronger foundation to continue building connected services for the future to support our customers’ business overall,” Brown said. “When we look at what’s in the Mack Connect toolbox, it’ll include all the needed information for our customers to view the efficiency and the performance of the Mack-powered trucks and their fleet.”

The Mack Connect toolbox includes data about asset location, idle time, traffic information, fuel efficiency, safety performance and vehicle speed. Customers can access the status of their Mack vehicles through a 4G Telematics Gateway.

“They’ll be able to do things like monitor the vehicle location using the tool’s map feature, helping them to navigate traffic, find the closest dealership or other points of interest,” Brown said. “They can view software and parameter information; they can view fault codes as well as repair instructions, helping keep their trucks on the road and out of the shop.

“And they can also have access to a robust reporting module where they view operational metrics, specifically fuel and safety operational metrics.”

Mack Connect was piloted with several customers before its launch. Hilco Transport, based in Greensboro, N.C., was one that participated. The carrier reported about 50% of its 500-vehicle fleet are Mack trucks with a total of 200 using Mack Connect.

“They can see trends of these metrics all the way down to a product or VIN level. All of this is going to be made available to our customers with one simple login. But in the end, this tool will help our customers to simplify their daily operations, help them operate smarter, help them operate more efficiently and help them remain more in control.”
