Mack Trucks Appoints Senior Vice President for North American Sales

A 23-year veteran of the heavy-duty commercial vehicle business soon will be responsible for Mack Trucks' North American sales, the Greensboro, N.C., company announced March 30.

Jonathan Randall has been appointed Mack's senior vice president for North American sales, effective April 11.

Randall's position previously was the responsibility of Stephen Roy, who was appointed senior vice president-uptime within Volvo Group North America, Mack spokesman Christopher Heffner said in an e-mail.  Randall will be based in Greenswboro and report to Mack President Dennis Slagle. According to his LinkedIn page, he previously held sales and marketing positions within Daimler Trucks North America, powertrain company Wrightspeed and Hines Specialty Vehicle Group.

Mack is coming off its best year since 2006.

The heavy-duty truck manufacturer delivered 27,411 vehicles in 2015, its strongest year since it delivered 36,838 vehicles in 2006, according to a report from Volvo Group of Sweden, Mack's parent company.

Volvo said last year's high demand for heavy-duty trucks in North America — which accounted for 25,302, or 92%, of Mack's worldwide deliveries in 2015— was the result of fleet renewal and fleet expansion combined with customer profitability because of a good freight environment, low fuel prices and low interest rates.

Freight activity weakened toward the end of 2015, Volvo said, and the need for fleet expansion and renewal will be lessened this year.

Mack's 1 million-square-foot Lower Macungie Township plant in Pennsylvana  is where all Mack trucks built for the North American market and export are assembled. Local operations, called Mack Lehigh Valley Operations, employ about 1,430.
