LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mack Trucks executives want to increase sales of longhaul sleeper trucks, especially this year when they see purchases of North American Class 8 vehicles rebounding from a dip in 2013.

The original equipment manufacturer known for its bulldog hood ornament does not want to relinquish longhaul models to Volvo Trucks, its sister OEM within Volvo Group.

“There’s plenty of business for both brands,” Stephen Roy said March 27 at his first Mid-America Trucking Show as Mack’s president.

The company displayed two 60-inch and one 70-inch midrise sleeper cabs.

Volvo Group estimates 2014 North American sales of about 250,000 big trucks, or the same level as 2012. Roy said sales of construction and regional-haul trucks, two of the company’s three best traditional lines, are doing best for Mack now.

Mack also stressed the importance of its GuardDog Connect remote diagnostics service.
