Lytx to Launch Expanded Video Services

Lytx Inc., provider of the DriveCam video-based safety system, is preparing to launch an added service designed to eliminate operational blind spots through expanded use of onboard video.

Lytx Video Services, an enhancement for the DriveCam program, uses an event recorder and onboard cameras to capture video wherever and whenever fleets want it.

For example, the system could record a load being delivered, cargo being stolen or a rookie driver hitting the road for the first time.

Lytx Video Services will be available in the first quarter of 2018, according to the company.

Video evidence can help companies evaluate not only driver performance, but also business processes and procedures. That, in turn, can reveal opportunities to improve customer service or boost fleet efficiency, Lytx said.

Video Services represents an evolution of the Unisyn “video without limits” platform introduced in late 2016.

“The key, we discovered, was giving our clients the ability to easily — and quickly — go back to a specific point in time to see exactly what happened, from any view they desired,” Lytx CEO Brandon Nixon said. “This ability to see more — and therefore know and do more — about what’s happening in the vehicle and in the field could completely transform how a fleet operates.”

The DriveCam program with Lytx Video Services uses the new Lytx ER-SF64 event recorder. It includes a driver-facing lens which captures 12- or 20-second clips when trigged by a driving event such as a hard brake or sudden swerve. The event recorder also has a forward-facing lens that continually records video and can livestream video in real time.

The event recorder connects with third-party cameras as well to enable 360-degree views in and around the vehicle. With the additional hardware called the Lytx Hub, Video Services can support up to 12 additional camera views.

Lytx customers access data and video from DriveCam and Lytx Video Services through Lytx Workspace, a web-based “command center” for fleet managers.

Lee Robledo, vice president of safety and loss control at NFI Industries, said Lytx Video Services has helped NFI be more efficient in ways the company hadn’t anticipated.

“We’ve had the experience where our managers have gone to a live feed once they’ve been notified by their driver that they’re having an issue with the customer,” he said. “Now you have concrete proof that you can talk to your customer about.”
