have always been a fuel miser, even with my personal vehicles.

In my tractor, I have a Cummins M11 that I overhauled just recently. I get very good miles per gallon and average about 7.5 mpg. This helps out these days with the high fuel costs.

The engine produces 370 horsepower and provides good power east of the Rocky Mountains. I have never been interested in too much power because of the big drop in mpg.

It’s too bad many owner-operators look at having power more than they look at the bottom line. I realize there are areas where a higher-horsepower engine would be needed, but I think a better balance of performance and mileage should be considered when buying a truck.

The primary concern should be profit, especially when it’s your profit.
