tah Gov. Mike Leavitt (R), whom President Bush picked last week to be administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, was expected to leave in place the agency’s 2007 diesel-engine emission regulations and 2006 diesel fuel requirements, said officials for both trucking industry and environmental groups.

EPA has set tougher emission standards to begin taking effect in 2007 and issued a complementary rule requiring refiners to provide ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel beginning in 2006.

“These have been left in place by the Bush administration and the industries are moving forward on them,” said Glen Kedzie, environmental counsel for American Trucking Associations, in an interview with Transport Topics Aug. 12.
