Landstar Unit Gets Low Safety Grade

Landstar System announced Tuesday that Landstar Ligon, a wholly owned subsidiary based in Madisonville, Ky., received a proposed unsatisfactory safety rating from the Kentucky Divisional Office of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

While the rating is scheduled to become effective Jan. 2, government rules allow Ligon to appeal the proposal by submitting a corrective action plan to the DOT. The proposed rating would be delayed while under appeal.

In a press release, Landstar said it is looking into the matters identified in the DOT's safety audit and will promptly submit its CAP to the DOT.

"Landstar Ligon and all the Landstar operating companies are committed to safety," said Landstar Chairman Jeffrey C. Crowe. "We are also committed to exploring and addressing the matters identified by the DOT and in satisfactorily resolving the issues raised by the DOT. We are confident that upon the completion of this process, Ligon's proposed safety rating will be upgraded to conditional and believe that it may be upgraded to satisfactory."
