Knight’s 2Q Income Flat from a Year Ago

Truckload carrier Knight Transportation’s second-quarter profit was about even with a year ago at $12.6 million, or 15 cents a share, compared with last year’s $12.7 million, or 15 cents.

Revenue fell to $162.1 million, from $206.1 million a year ago, the company said late Wednesday. Revenue excluding fuel surcharges fell 6.8% to $144.3 million.

“Lower diesel fuel prices combined with ongoing success of several internal initiatives to improve fuel efficiency helped profitability,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Knight.

“These initiatives include improving fuel efficiency, more disciplined fuel purchasing and fuel stop routing, and fewer out-of-route miles,” he said in a statement.

Knight is ranked No. 38 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
