ruckload carrier Knight Transportation said late Friday that Richard Lehmann has been elected as a director and that Timothy Kohl, a director and the president of Knight Transportation, stepped down from the company’s board.

Kohl will continue to serve as president, attend board meetings and provide input, Knight said.

Kevin Knight, Knight’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement that Kohl stepped down voluntarily to help boost the number of outside directors who have no affiliation with the company.

Lehmann is the founding principal of the Biltmore Bank of Arizona and is chairman of Bank Capital Corp., the bank’s holding company.

Knight is ranked No. 49 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
