Jobless Claims Jump for Week

Initial jobless claims jumped by 36,000 last week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Claims rose to 482,000, in contrast to the decline to 440,000 that had been forecast by economists, Bloomberg reported.

Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended Jan. 9 fell by 18,000 to 4.6 million, Labor said.
