Jim Filter to Follow Mark Rourke as Schneider CEO in July
Rourke to Remain With Carrier as Executive Chairman
Staff Reporter
Key Takeaways:
- Jim Filter will become Schneider’s CEO on July 1 as part of a planned transition.
- Outgoing CEO Mark Rourke will serve as executive chairman and remain involved in strategy.
- The change follows Schneider’s growth in dedicated trucking and recent acquisitions.
Jim Filter will be the next CEO of Schneider starting July 1, the carrier said Jan. 28, replacing Mark Rourke as the company’s top executive as part of a planned leadership transition.
Rourke, who has served as CEO since 2019, will become executive chairman of the carrier’s board.
The company said Rourke would therefore continue to contribute to Schneider’s strategic direction and provide counsel to the leadership team.
Green Bay, Wis.-based Schneider ranks No. 10 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America. Schneider also ranks No. 4 in the intermodal segment and No. 7 among truckload carriers.

Filter
Filter currently holds the title of executive vice president and group president of transportation and logistics and will join the board when he takes up his new role.
“I am honored to take the helm at Schneider and continue to build on the momentum Mark and our team have created,” Filter said. “Schneider is well positioned for significant growth, and I’m eager to lead our talented team in advancing our technology solutions, expanding our multimodal network, and driving operational growth and excellence to create enduring value for all stakeholders.”
Filter joined Schneider in 1998. He has held his current position since 2022 and oversees all of Schneider’s operating segments.
“Jim is absolutely the right person to lead Schneider moving forward. He is a proven leader who understands our business and our customers, and I am confident he will build on our momentum and lead Schneider into an even stronger future,” Rourke said.
“Schneider’s strength has always been its ability to adapt and lead in a constantly changing environment, and I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together. I look forward to continuing to support Jim and our strategic priorities as executive chairman,” he added.

Rourke
With Rourke at the tiller, the carrier expanded in the intermodal segment and refocused its truckload operations more toward the higher-margin dedicated carrier market through organic and inorganic growth.
In November 2024, Schneider bought Cowan Systems for $390 million.
Schneider’s dedicated fleet now totals around 8,600 tractors, the carrier said in December.
When Schneider went public in 2017, 70% of its truckload segment business was network and 30% was dedicated, Filter told TT in an interview in 2025, shares that have since been reversed.
Under Rourke’s leadership, Schneider bought Midwest Logistics Systems and M&M Transport Services in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Schneider is set to release fourth-quarter 2025 earnings after the market close Jan. 29.
