Initial Jobless Claims Rise 8,000 for Week

he number of workers filing initial unemployment claims rose by 8,000 last week to 303,000, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The rise was higher that economists’ predictions of a decline to 290,000 claims, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average of claims, a less volatile measure, rose to 293,500 from 287,250 the previous week.

ontinuing jobless claims for the previous week ended Feb. 25 rose to 2.506 million from 2.477 million a week prior to that.
