Import Prices Rise in January

The price of goods imported to the United States increased in January on fuel, food and metal costs, the Labor Department said Friday.

The 1.4% increase followed a revised 0.2% gain in December, Labor said. Prices excluding petroleum rose 0.4%.

Economists estimated import prices would rise 1%, Bloomberg reported.

Export prices rose 0.8% after gaining 0.6% in December.
