Hostess Returns Under New Management

Hostess is back under new management and leaner structure and says it plans to have Twinkies and its other snacks on shelves by July 15, the Associated Press reported.

Hostess will deliver to warehouses that supply retailers rather than ship directly to stores. Previously, Hostess was only able to reach about a third of the country's 150,000 convenience stores, according to AP.

The new Hostess Brands has less costly operating structure than before, with some of the previous workers rehired, but they are no longer unionized, AP reported.

Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in early 2012. The company said it was weighed down by higher pension and medical costs than its competitors, whose employees weren’t unionized, AP reported.

Last year, Hostess Brands, Irving, Texas, ranked No. 32 on Transport Topics’ Top 100 Private Carriers list, with about 900 tractors, 6,700 trucks and vans and 1,800 trailers.
