NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Haldex AB announced its intelligent trailer control module, intended to expand the capability of trailer anti-lock brake systems to include faster communication and increased functionality. The module will be available in the second quarter of 2017, according to Haldex.

The trailer control module embraces both the power line carrier and controller area network for communications and diagnostics, the Sweden-based company said here Feb. 26 at the annual meeting of American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council.

The addition of controller area network protocol allows fleets to add options when the time and cost are right, Haldex said.

The expanded options include trailer roll stability control — a plug-in auxiliary device to provide rollover control and automatic braking; trailer-lift axle control — to control the position of lift axles during operation; switch control — to act as an on/off switch to provide an action determined by pressures, temperature, power voltage and other inputs; and external system monitoring to monitor and report on non-Haldex systems such as tire-pressure monitoring, the company said.
