Frito-Lay Adding Natural Gas Trucks to Fleet

Frito-Lay on Tuesday said it is adding 67 compressed natural gas trucks to its private fleet, the New York Times reported.

The snack food producer and distributor also said it plans to eventually power the majority of its long-range fleet with CNG and liquefied natural gas, the paper said.

Frito-Lay told the Times it will deploy the 67 CNG trucks by mid-July. These CNG trucks will save about $2.50 per gallon compared to diesel at current prices, the company said.

Frito-Lay is a division of PepsiCo, which is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian private carriers.
