FHWA Releases $1 Million in Emergency Aid to Repair Nevada’s Storm-Damaged Infrastructure

The Federal Highway Administration on Feb. 21 announced it was making available $1 million in emergency relief funds for repairs to flood-damaged roads and bridges in Nevada.

“The flooding has caused significant damage to roads and bridges in the northern part of Nevada, and this funding will help with immediate repairs,” Walter Waidelich, acting deputy FHWA administrator said in a statement. “It represents a down payment to help get roads back up and running again while the state completes its damage assessments.”

FHWA said severe rainstorms since Feb. 5 have caused widespread flooding that has damaged roads in 11 counties and Carson City.

The initial “quick release” payment is considered a down payment on the costs of short-term repairs in coming weeks.
