FedEx Freight announced Friday it will raise shipping rates by 6.9% on July 9.

The less-than-truckload unit of FedEx Corp. said in a statement the increase applies to shipments within the United States, within Canada and between the two countries. The new rates do not apply to Alaska and Hawaii.

The 6.9% increase also affects shipments for the U.S. portion of movements between the United States and Mexico. FedEx Freight said its fuel surcharge will remain unchanged.

The company last raised rates in September. That rate increase was 6.75%. In January, rates at FedEx Express and FedEx Ground rose as well.

FedEx Corp. is ranked No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
