ruckload carrier Epes Transport System said it has raised pay for company drivers, owner-operators and dedicated teams, to be effective July 31.

The new package increases top company pay to 42 cents a mile, while independent contractors pay will rise to 90 cents a mile loaded and empty, plus fuel surcharge.

Epes, Greensboro, N.C., also created a new dedicated team operation of 50 power units with pay of up to 54 cents a mile for company teams and $1.15 mile for independent contractors.

The wait time for detention pay has been reduced from four hours to two hours, in response to recommendations made by their driver fleet.

“Our goal is to provide our fleet with solid pay and home weekends,” said Britt Colley, Epes’ president. “This is a well deserved raise for our professionals on the road,” he said.
