FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Former Transportation Secretary Samuel K. Skinner urged transportation executives to become involved in politics for the sake of their businesses despite his own recent exit from government to the trucking industry.
Speaking here at TransComp 2000, Skinner said that while he is eager to see a second Bush administration, he will not be working in it. “I made a commitment to the [USFreightways Corp. (USFC)] board of directors,” he said.
“No matter who eventually becomes president, business can still have an impact on the process, and you’re in for some surprises if you think someone else will (lobby) for you.”
