ransportation and logistics firm EGL Inc. reported first-quarter net income of $11.1 million or 27 cents a share, up from $7.2 million or 14 cents a year ago.
Revenue rose 7% to $701 million on increased air, ocean and logistics activity, the company said late Monday.
“Our first quarter results represent a very good start for 2006 in what traditionally has been our seasonally weakest quarter from both a revenue and earnings perspective,” Chief Executive Officer Jim Crane said in a statement.
EGL, which operates under the name EGL Eagle Global Logistics, is ranked No. 19 on the Transport Topics Logistics 50 listing of the largest U.S. and Canadian logistics companies.
