Diesel Rises for Fifth Week, Up 5.4¢ to $3.85; Gasoline Jumps 13.7¢ to $3.645 a Gallon
Diesel rose 5.4 cents to $3.85 a gallon, its fifth straight gain, while gasoline jumped 13.7 cents to $3.645, its biggest upturn in 17 months, the Department of Energy said Monday.
Trucking’s main fuel is now 4.7 cents below the same week last year, while gas is 2.9 cents below a year ago, DOE records showed.
Diesel had plunged 50 cents in 12 straight declines prior to the current five-week stretch of gains, in which it has bounced back 20.2 cents.
Gasoline has now gained risen almost 29 cents in five straight increases after dropping 58.5 cents 13 previous consecutive downturns.

Crude oil rose 80 cents to finish the trading day Monday at $92.20 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, a two-and-a-half week high, Bloomberg reported.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
