Diesel’s national average rose for the eighth consecutive week, gaining 2.3 cents to $3.43 a gallon, the Department of Energy said.

Gasoline also rose for an eighth week, gaining 0.6 cent to $3.11 a gallon at the pump, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations Monday.

The diesel increase leaves its national average 59.7 cents over the same week a year ago, while gasoline is 40.5 cents over the year-ago price.

Trucking’s main fuel has risen 26.8 cents in the past two months, including last week’s 7.4-cent jump, the highest one-week gain since April.

Gasoline has risen 25.4 cents in the past two months, according to DOE records.

Oil slid to below $90 a barrel last week, with crude futures falling more than $1 Monday to finish under $88 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Bloomberg reported.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
