Diesel Drops Again, Falling 4.1¢ to $4.047
Diesel’s national average pump price fell for a third consecutive week, declining 4.1 cents to $4.047 a gallon, while gasoline dipped 1.4 cents, the Department of Energy said Monday.
Diesel has declined 11.2 cents in the past three weeks, and Monday’s slide almost matched last week’s 4.2-cent downturn.
Gasoline, which fell to $3.696 a gallon, has fallen 8.8 cents in three straight declines.
Diesel is now 9.5 cents below the same week last year, while gas is 17.1 cents lower than a year ago, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.
Oil, meanwhile, rose 29 cents Monday to finish the trading day at $93.74 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest Nymex closing price since Feb. 20.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
