Diesel fuel’s national average price fell for a third straight week, dipping 1.2 cents to $2.622 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.

The decline followed drops of 1.3 cents last week and 2.7 cents two weeks ago, putting the three-week downturn at 5.2 cents.

Monday’s drop left trucking’s main fuel $1.336 below the same week last year, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.

Gasoline, meanwhile fell 2.5 cents to $2.552, marking its sixth straight downturn, in which it has fallen 9.5 cents.

The decline left gasoline $1.166 below the same week last year, according to DOE records.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
