Diesel fuel’s national average pump price dipped 0.3 cent to $2.886 a gallon, while gasoline continued its downward trend, falling 8.2 cents to $2.876, the Energy Department said Monday.

The gasoline drop follows last week’s 9.1-cent plunge and leaves gas 12.8 cents below the same week last year.

The matching diesel prices of $2.889 in the past two weeks were this year’s highest.

Monday’s price leaves trucking’s main fuel 9.4 cents below the same week last year, according to DOE figures.

Diesel averages fell in four of five DOE regions, climbing only in the Rocky Mountains, where the price rose 1.5 cents to $3.003.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
