Detroit Diesel Says It Will Use EGR in 2007 Engines
ngine maker Detroit Diesel Corp. said Friday it planned to use exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel particulate filters on its heavy-duty engines to meet the government's 2007 emissions standards.
Detroit Diesel President Carsten Reinhardt said in a statement the engines are already in development, and it planned to operate vehicles with them by the end of the year.
Detroit Diesel is part of DaimlerChrysler AG's Freightliner LLC division. Freightliner is the largest truck maker in North America.
The company said EGR will be used on the DDC Series 60 and the Mercedes-Benz engines. In addition, a new engine scheduled for release in 2007 by Detroit Diesel and DaimlerChrysler will use EGR and diesel particulate filters.
Detroit Diesel said it has built over 40,000 Series 60 engines with EGR to meet emissions standards that took effect in October 2002.
