iesel engine manufacturer Detroit Diesel Corp. said Wednesday it has performed the first in-use emissions test on its Series 60 heavy-duty diesel engine, and said the results show the engine meets federal Environmental Protection Agency standards.

EPA mandates emissions standards must be demonstrated over the useful life of the engine, which is 435,000 miles for heavy-duty diesel engines.

“Our testing really demonstrates that Detroit Diesel is ahead of the curve when it comes to complying with the regulations and our working relationship with the EPA and the California Air Resources Board,” said Glenn Lysinger, DDC’s chief compliance officer.

“Our engineering team is to be commended for the great efforts it has made to ensure these engines would remain compliant throughout their useful life,” he said in a statement.

Test results showed that the engine, which had 360,000 miles, was still within EPA regulations and required no preparation prior to testing outside of its regularly scheduled maintenance.
