Daimler’s Truck Unit Posts Higher 2Q Profit on Strong Sales

Daimler AG said Wednesday its truck unit’s second-quarter earnings and revenue rose on higher sales.

Earnings before interest and taxes at the truck unit rose 8% to $635 million, while revenue jumped 22% to $9.9 billion, Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler said.

The parent company of Freightliner Trucks said it sees strong demand in North America for the full year, citing fleets’ need for replacement trucks.

Daimler said late last week it is stepping up its a truck-making venture in China, planning an engine plant to go along with a joint venture to make trucks in that country.
