Contrans’ 1Q Income Improves

Canadian carrier Contrans Group’s first-quarter profit rose, in part on acquisitions, the company said.

Net income rose to C$5.3 million, or 15 cents a share, from C$3.5 million, or 10 cents, a year earlier.

Revenue rose to C$121.4 million, from $C101.1 million, the Woodstock, Ontario-based company said late Monday.

Transportation services revenue rose to C$102.4 million, from C$88.6 million.



In January, Contrans acquired Wilburn Archer Trucking, a dry-bulk trucking business based in Norwood, Ontario, which has annual revenue of about C$14 million.

Contrans is ranked No. 60 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
