Chevron Products Co. is rolling out its new line of Delo 400 API CK-4 and FA-4 heavy-duty engine oils developed to provide better wear protection, piston deposit control and oxidation control compared with the prior generation of heavy-duty engine oils.

FA-4 was designed for the use with model year 2017 diesel engines. It will provide the same oxidation stability, aeration and shear stability enhancements found in CK-4 but will be available in lower viscosity grades, which could lead to an additional increase in fuel efficiency, experts said.

“We’re seeing a major shift in how our customers select engine oil,” Rommel Atienza, commercial brands manager for Chevron Lubricants North America, said in a statement. “Oil selection is a strategic business decision.”

The new Delo 400 products have gone through the most diverse and extensive field test program in Chevron’s history, including on more than 950 engines across a range of on- and off-highway vehicles, according to the division of Chevron USA Inc., based in San Ramon, California.

“With millions of miles and tens of thousands of hours of testing across nine industries, we didn’t focus solely on on-highway fleets but emphasized a more well-rounded approach to assist the trucking, construction, agriculture, mining, inland marine industries, among others,” Len Badal, brand manager for Chevron Lubricants Global Delo, said in a statement.

The company also has a new look for the CK-4 and FA-4 product lines to ensure optimal differentiation between products and thus decreasing any confusion, including new jug colors, revised label designs and a new coordinated label and cap system, Chevron said.

Some of its new oils are available now, and others are scheduled to be released in April, the company said. It is also continuing certain of its previous Delo 400 products.

The products available as of Dec. 1 are Delo 400 SDE SAE 15W-40 API CK-4, Delo 400 XLE SAE 10W-30 API CK-4, Delo 400 XLE SAE 15W-40 API CK-4 and Delo 400 ZFA SAE 10W-30 API FA-4, according to Chevron. The products available in April are Delo 400 SP SAE 0W-30 API CK-4 and Delo 400 XSP SAE 5W-30 API CK-4.
