C.H. Robinson’s 4Q Profit Declines

Transportation and third-party logistics firm C.H. Robinson Worldwide reported a fourth-quarter profit of $87.7 million, or 52 cents a share, down slightly from $88.9 million, or 52 cents a share, a year ago.

Revenue grew 2.7% to $2 billion, the company said late Tuesday. Transportation revenue was flat, driven by falling transportation rates and offset by volume increases.

Truck revenue, including truckload and less-than-truckload services, fell 2.3%. Truckload volumes increased 13%, while truckload margins decreased due to declining rates. LTL revenues grew due to volume increases.

Intermodal net revenue fell 26.7% due to falling prices.



For the full year ended Dec. 31, income grew slightly to $360.8 million, from $359.2 million in 2008. Revenue fell to $5.98 billion, compared with $7.13 billion the year before.
