Cass Freight Index Declines in May

The Cass Freight Index, which measures shipment activity in trucking and other transport modes, declined 0.3% in May from a year ago.

The report from Cass Information Systems, St. Louis, also noted a 2.9% improvement in shipping activity in May from April.

The month-to-month rise was tied to strong showings from rail, with crude oil shipments up 26.8% in May.
