Cass Freight Index Declines in June

The Cass Freight Index, which measures shipment activity in trucking and other transport modes, declined 1.5% in June from a year ago.

The report from Cass Information Systems, St. Louis, also noted a 0.09% improvement in shipping activity in June from May.

The month-to-month rise is the lowest June increase in the past three years as the railroad sector had a 0.7% drop in carloadings and a 1.1% decline in intermodal loadings, the index said.
