Bush Nominates John Hill to Be New FMCSA Administrator

John HillPresident Bush has nominated John Hill to be administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the White House said Wednesday.

Hill currently serves as assistant administrator and chief safety officer for FMCSA, which is part of the Department of Transportation.



Prior to that, Hill served as Major, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Commander, for the Indiana State Police.

Hill’s appointment is subject to Senate ratification.

The trucking industry supported the move, American Trucking Associations President Bill Graves said in a statement.

"I commend President Bush for his decision to nominate John Hill as [FMCSA administrator.] His proven record, both at the state and federal level, as a top safety professional is a tremendous asset and we look forward to working as partners in our continuing efforts to improve highway safety," Graves said.

Separately, Presdident Bush appointed DOT Secretary Norman Mineta to be a member of the Amtrak Reform Board for a five-year term beginning June 28.
