Bush Names Former ATA’s Jackson To Be Deputy DOT Secretary

President Bush has announced his intention to nominate Michael P. Jackson, a former senior official at the American Trucking Associations, to be deputy secretary of transportation.

Jackson will serve under Secretary Norman Mineta, the only Democrat in the Bush Cabinet and the former commerce secretary under President Clinton.

A White House announcement noted that Jackson is currently vice president and general manager for business development at Lockheed Martin IMS, Transportation Systems and Services.

Before that, he was at ATA as senior vice president and counselor to the president under Thomas J. Donohue, who is now president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Jackson has been in the Department of Transportation before, serving as its chief of staff during 1992-1993. He was also special assistant to the president and executive secretary for Cabinet liaison for former President Bush.
