ATA, TIA Offer Varying Models for Broker-Carrier Contracts

nable to settle on a compromise, trade associations representing freight brokers and motor carriers are offering their respective industries competing models for business contracts governing relations be-tween their transport sectors.

The Transportation Intermediaries Association unveiled its broker-carrier agreement on June 5, while American Trucking Associations said its model document will be available as soon as the Department of Justice clears it.

While TIA President Robert Voltmann called his model “a fair and balanced template contract that would raise the standard and suit the best interests of both brokers and carriers,” ATA said the document would deny carriers the crucial right of recourse to pursue shippers should brokers fail to pay their truckers.
