merican Trucking Associations said it has opened the selection process for the 2007-2008 America’s Road Team, representing the trucking industry’s top driver-ambassadors.

Sponsored by Volvo Trucks, the team is made up of 12 professional truck drivers, each with an exemplary safety record and a demonstrated personal commitment to educating the public about highway safety and spreading the word about the positive aspects of the trucking industry.

Deadline for nominations is Aug. 31. ATA said the semifinalists will be announced in October at the its Management Conference and Exhibition in Dallas, while final judging will take place at ATA’s headquarters in Alexandria, Va., in January of next year.

The top drivers, known as Road Team Captains, deliver the industry’s safety message to driver education classes, schools, business groups, safety organizations, the news media, regulatory agencies and Congress.

They will also talk safety with their professional colleagues in driver meetings and at annual truck shows. Captains also share their experience and advice to help educate motorists on how to share the road safely with large trucks.
