ATA, CTA Oppose California Bill Requiring Sale of Biodiesel

merican Trucking Associations said it opposed a bill before the California legislature that would require all diesel fuel sold in the state to contain at least 2% biodiesel by 2008 and at least 5% biodiesel by 2010.

ATA and the California Trucking Association both urged the state’s Senate to vote against the legislation, which they said would cause diesel prices to spike in the state, distribution problems and possible damage to truck engines.

The bill, sponsored by state Sen. Christine Kehoe, has received approval from both the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee and Senate Environmental Quality Committee.
