Trucking Chief Addresses Trade Conference Today

Speakers including Ontario Trucking Association President David Bradley and Canadian Transport Minister David Collenette were set to address representatives of business and government from the United States and Canada at the Trade Corridors Conference Monday. Bradley supports a highway policy for all of Canada, put together by the federal and other governments in Canada, that will provide money and a game plan for improving road infrastructure that will enable growth in Nafta trade.

Due to the country's relatively small population, it needs trade to create wealth, he says. "Combined, the governments of Canada take $8 billion more out of the Canadian road user in fuel taxes than they collectively put back into the highways system," Bradley says. These results are affected by the May 1999 addition of the former APL stacktrain operations to the Pacer operations that were effective in the third quarter 1998.

Revenue for Pacer's new stacktrain operations is still increasing quickly, while the other operations contributed roughly $100 million to the year-over-year growth in third-quarter gross revenues. Business Wire (11/01/99)

The deal as well as the growth of USA Truck's dedicated fleet business, now making roughly $12 million in yearly revenue, are important strides for the recently-created Corporate Development department, USA Truck believes. The department concentrates on acquisitions and dedicated fleets as well as private fleet conversions. Last year, roughly 20% of CCC Express revenues came from dedicated contracts.
