DHL Expects to Keep USPS' Global Business
DHL Worldwide Express expects to retain its international parcel relationship with the U.S. Postal Service, even though USPS has a new relationship with FedEx (FDX), the Journal of Commerce Online reported late Friday.International air, customs clearance and delivery of documents and packages weighing up to 70 pounds are handled by DHL for the postal service, in an alliance that began in April 1999 and was expanded in October 2000.

Chrysler May Face Huge Job Cuts, Plant Closings
DaimlerChrysler (DCX) expects to cut almost a fifth of the Chrysler workforce, slashing as many as 6,000 of the automaker's 30,000 white-collar jobs and 10,000 to 15,000 of its 95,000 manufacturing jobs over a three-year period, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.About six of the company's 41 plants may be closed, although some may be presented as indefinite idlings, the paper said.
Attrition and early retirements will likely be emphasized over layoffs, according to the paper.
Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Dieter Zetsche has a track record of fixing ailing companies through job cuts. In 1991, he turned around DaimlerChrysler's Freightliner heavy-truck division by laying off about a quarter of the workforce, the paper said. Transport Topics

National Gasoline Average Up 4 Cents
The nationwide average retail price of gasoline rose four cents in the past two weeks to $1.52, the Lundberg Survey found, as reported by the Associated Press.Higher wholesale prices for crude oil spurred the rise, according to analyst Trilby Lundberg.
However, a daily reduction of 1.5 million barrels announced last week by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries should not push retail prices up too much, Lundberg told the news service. Increased oil production in non-OPEC Mexico offset the cuts, Lundberg said.
The weekly survey covers 7,500 U.S. service stations. Transport Topics
