Aether Systems Buys Motient Corp. Tracking System
Motient Corp. has sold the transportation arm of its satellite-based vehicle-tracking and communications business to Aether Systems for $45 million plus incentives.
Aether, in Owings Mills, Md., also has agreed to pay $25 million for the right to sell air time on Motient’s satellite and terrestrial network.

The deal means that trucking companies that had used the former American Mobile Satellite Corp’s MobileMax and Pro 2000 tracking products will now be served by a new company.
Motient, which is based in Reston, Va., will continue to sell access to its terrestrial wireless data network and its satellite network.
