Mexico’s Senate on Dec. 10 voted in favor of the bill that imposes tariffs of between 5% and 50% on more than 1,400 products from Asian nations that don’t have a trade deal with Mexico.

Sheinbaum said that talks with U.S. carriers will go on but the feeling is that cargo airlines are satisfied with the agreement over slots at two airports.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s plan to impose steep tariffs on Chinese imports has been delayed until at least December as mounting opposition stalls congressional debate.

Trump sidestepped the question of how long he felt extending the deadline was appropriate. He said existing tariff rates were sufficient to convince car companies to move manufacturing to the U.S.

Trump had set a Nov. 1 deadline to raise the fentanyl-related tariffs he imposed on certain Mexican goods to 30% from 25%. The levies apply to products that are not protected by the USMCA.
