The Monterrey facility — Volvo Group’s first truck manufacturing plant in Mexico — is set to build trucks for both VTNA and Mack, in addition to U.S. output.

The countries are facing a July 1 milestone to extend the pact. Trump did not say whether he was considering fully exiting the deal.

The June 12 event with representatives from both countries will mark the completion of the Gordie Howe International Bridge over the Detroit River. The bridge will open for traffic on June 15. 

By declining to formally renew, the Trump administration will trigger negotiations and an indefinite period of uncertainty about the future of the agreement.

The letters come ahead of the scheduled July review of USMCA, which can either be subject to annual reviews going forward, or renewed for 16 years.

The report by the U.S. Trade Representative said Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, the U.K. and some other countries would face 10% additional tariffs for allegedly failing to enforce a forced labor import ban.

The remarks come as the U.S. and Mexico begin formal talks on potential changes to the continental trade pact known as USMCA.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has set a goal to double non-U.S. trade in a decade. 

Amerit Fleet Solutions said it acquired Pro Reefer, a Canadian fleet maintenance provider that specializes in refrigerated trailer equipment.

Currently, 11 Xcient tractors are operating in Canada, including as part of the BC Hydrogen Ports Project to decarbonize drayage at the Port of Vancouver.
