Werner Enterprises Inc. has named Nathan Meisgeier as its next president, the company announced Jan. 10.

Omaha, Neb.-based Werner ranks No. 17 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.

Meisgeier, who currently serves as Werner’s chief legal officer, joined the company in 2005 and has been a member of its executive team since 2016. Meisgeier will retain his current responsibilities as he moves into the role of president.

“Since being promoted to Werner’s general counsel in 2016, Nathan has been a transformative leader across the enterprise, currently acting as chief of staff and bringing a remarkable level of integrity and strategic vision to our company,” said CEO Derek Leathers, who previously served as president and retains the role of chairman. He recommended Meisgeier for the job.

Leathers added, “Nathan is a company-first servant leader, naturally connecting with all Werner associates — professional drivers, maintenance associates and office personnel.”

The move took effect Jan. 5 and was unanimously approved by Werner’s board of directors.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected by Derek and appointed by Werner’s board of directors to be our company’s next president,” Meisgeier said. “In my 18 years with this great company, I have learned invaluable lessons from many current and former Werner leaders, including both Derek and CL Werner himself.”

He added, “I look forward to helping the Werner team write the next chapters in this company’s storied history.”

Meisgeier also serves as chair of American Trucking Associations’ Legal Reform Advisory Committee.

Prior to joining Werner, Meisgeier worked with the Kansas City, Mo.-based law firm Stinson, Mag & Fizzell from 1998 to 2005.
