Wabash Profits Down, Sales Up

Wabash National Corp. of Lafayette, Ind., reported slightly lower profits, but higher net sales in the first quarter of 1999.

Chairman Jerry Ehrlich said adverse weather conditions disrupted manufacturing and retail operations early in the period, but business came back strong in the latter part of the quarter.

Demand remains strong and the company’s backlog is valued at more than $1 billion. The backlog includes $600 million in orders for Wabash’s proprietary composite trailers, he said.
